How this Creation Kids Yearly Calendar All Began.

This calendar I initially created for our family when my oldest was insisting months in advance to pack for our family camping trip. I decided then and there a reference to time, days, weeks, months was needed before our entire house became packed up by a 3 year old!

As I contemplated how to visually teach my preschool the days of the week, when daddy worked, when we rested on Sabbath, how to teach what season is it now. I was struck by the thought, why not use the weekly cycle in Genesis with images in this calendar for teaching creation to my children.

There are so many things to teach your young child using a simple yearly calendar. They are curious and eager to learn about their world. There is so many things you can teach your pre-reading child using as many visuals as possible on a yearly calendar. Here are some ideas…

  1. Names of the days of the week and month of the year.
  2. Sequencing of time days, i.e. yesterday, today, tomorrow, day after tomorrow.
  3. Sequencing of weeks, i.e. this week, last week, next week, in a couple weeks, this month, next month etc..
  4. Counting: days of the week, days of the month, months of the year, counting up or down to events.
  5. When Sabbath begins and ends according to Genesis chapter 1
  6. Events, holidays.
  7. Seasons of the year.
  8. The days of Creation along side the Creation story.

Learning days of the week through a Kids Calendar

There is a lot I discovered one can teach using a humble calendar to preschoolers and kindergarteners, and it doesn’t need to be fancy. Learning days of the week through images can be fun!

The obvious one is helping teach the children the days of the week. They can learn the sequence of Sunday through Saturday, names of each day of the week and how this weekly pattern repeats to form months, which makes up a year.

Teaching Creation to Children Using this Kids Calendar

This is the best way to teach the days of the week to preschoolers and kindergarten age children.

Teaching creation to children through a calendar is fun and practical. You can teach the creation story by teaching the days of creation in your daily preschooler’s calendar with these images.

As this kids yearly calendar goes a step further and teaches the origin of the creation of the weekly cycle. Using images to show to the young children what God created on each day in Genesis.

This also helps your children understand how God made each day 1-7, not just what was made each day. That the days originally were marked from sunset to sunset (even and morning were the first (second, third, etc.) day Genesis chapter 1).

This repetitive cycle of the week is a beautiful way to help our children learn how the Creator created our World and how He still is involved in each day of our lives, daily.

Creation week chart for kids for teaching the days of creation

In this yearly calendar printable I’ve included a creation week chart for kids. This chart matches what is at the top of each monthly calendar.

You can cut it out and have your child place the daily images in order. Have fun matching each day with the correct number for the day those living things were created.

Get creative and have fun learning the creation story of Genesis chapters 1-2!

Fun ways to teach the Season of Year & Months to preschoolers

It’s fun to use this children’s visual calendar to teach seasons of the year. Using the images (and adding your own such as drawing a snowman in winter, a seedling on spring planting day) in this calendar is a fantastic way to help your preschooler see what season is it now.

Teaching the names of months and their corresponding season of year with a little visual artwork makes the calendar come alive.

When teaching the seasons of the year use terminology your little children can relate to. Make it relatable and fun!

Winter is when we play in the snow and make snowmen (or colder weather/rain depending on your climate). Spring is when things start to grow and gardens are planted, puddles are planted in. Summer is when we get to eat from the garden, go on picnics, wear no jackets, go bearfoot! Fall is when the leaves start to fall to the ground, we can rake them up and play in them. Then we know winter will be next season.

You can also teach what holidays happen in what seasons and months. Such as Thanksgiving day is in October (in Canada) or November in the USA. Christmas is in the middle of winter in December when we get to open our Nativity Advent!

You get the idea.

Have fun teaching your littles using this yearly calendar for kids with a Creation emphasis remembering our origins.

How to use this Preschool Kids Yearly Calendar Printable with a Creation emphasis

Once you’ve printed off this yearly calendar for kids. Take a moment to fill in the dates for that year.

Fill in any events or holidays your family is looking forward to and celebrating.

Little children love visuals to help them know what they’re looking forward to instead of reading (and likely they can’t quite yet or not super well yet).

Use stickers or even simple stick man drawing if you’re not artistic to create images for events they’re looking forward to. Make it fun!

For example we do balloons for birthdays, the kids get the same number of balloons as they will be turning so they can count them.

    Get creative and use colour!

I love this idea! We also had a very excited toddler years back who wanted everything to happen right now and got a calender for the same reason. Making a calender that also teaches creation is genius!

Glad to hear my toddler isn’t the only one. So neat you also used a calendar to teach your child the concept of time. Thanks!
